Abstract:
WANG Yuyang's poetics, comprehensive and profound, drew from the poetry of the mid-late Tang as part of its theoretical lineage.
Selected Poems from Caidiao Ji(《才调集选》), not only highlights the editorial principle of "Fengdiao"(风调) in Wei Gu's
Caidiao Ji(《才调集》), but also refines its selection by the criterion of elegance and propriety, thereby revealing the true essence of mid-late Tang poetry. WANG Yuyang also evaluated the poets of the early Qing by the standards of
Caidiao Collection and "Fengdiao"(风调). His own poems similarly exhibit the characteristics of "Fengdiao". WANG Yuyang's theory of "Fengdiao" inherited the late Tang poetry discourses from scholars such as OUYANG Xiu, YANG Wanli, and YUAN Haowen. Since the early Qing, it has profoundly influenced the reception history of mid-late Tang poetry, ultimately giving rise to the poetic concept of "Late Tang Fengdiao".
