Abstract
Yuan Chang was an important official in charge of foreign affairs in the late Qing Dynasty. He was also a famous poet and scholar. His diary became an important document of his time. At present, there are several popular versions, but they are not complete records, so a lot of historical information has been omitted. In fact, the manuscript of Yuan Chang's diary still exists and is collected in Shanghai Library and Nanjing Library. The 65-volume manuscript, estimated to contain more than 2 million words, records Yuan Chang's 30 years of life experience. It truly reflects a lot of historical information of the late Qing Dynasty has been truly reflected and much about the ideological changes of the official and the changes of his literary writing can be learned.
