  • The 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a public health emergency that threatens the health of all human be-ings.People have experienced different forms of isolation, which have a certain impact on people’s mental health. This study reviewed the characteristics of isolation, the psychological impacts of isolation in epidemics and the influencing factors. It showed that different characteristics, such as the duration of isolation, different ways of isolation and different places of isolation, would cause different psy-chological impacts. While isolation mostly has negative psychological impacts on the individuals and interpersonal relationship,protec-tive factors such as social support can reduce the negative impacts of isolation and even promote positive individual and interpersonal changes.Psychologists should pay attention to the possible negative psychological impacts of isolation, and provide psychological assis-tance to help the specific isolated groups improve their mental health as well as promote personal growth.
