Abstract:
This paper investigates the source of normal students in the past 40 years from the perspectives of urban-rural areas and gender. The results show that the number of male students in urban and rural areas studying in normal majors has been decreasing continuously, while the number of female students in urban and rural areas studying in normal majors has been increasing substantially, which leads to the development of the gender composition of normal students from male-dominated to female-dominated. At present, girls' opportunities to attend normal majors are several times than those of boys, and the imbalance of gender ratio in normal majors is very serious. In order to reverse this phenomenon, we should vigorously improve the salary of teachers in primary and secondary schools, especially rural teachers, so as to attract more outstanding boys to apply for normal majors, which will balance the gender ratio of normal students, thus ensuring the variety of normal students and improving the quality of teachers from the source.
